Annotated Bibliography An annotated bibliography is a list of referenced articles. Each reference is followed by a brief, descriptive, and evaluative paragraph. The purpose of this paragraph, known as the annotation, is to inform the reader about the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the source. At the professional level, annotated bibliographies let you see what is current in the literature and where your own research or scholarship can fit. In this assignment, you will develop an annotated bibliography comprised of five research articles that are related to play therapy. It is important for you to become familiar with the term evidence-based practice (EBP). Play therapy is a field that uses EBP to show statistically significant effectiveness of treatment. By relating theory to practice through research, the play therapy field can establish best practices. In a later discussion, you will post your annotated bibliography to share with your colleagues. Assignment Instructions Using the Capella library, locate five research studies in the field of play therapy. There are three different types of articles you will encounter while locating studies: • Research articles present original research. • Review articles discuss research already presented elsewhere. • Survey articles are comprehensive review articles that discuss an entire field or area of research. In the field of play therapy, we often find theoretical articles that explain how to use a theory or how to do a technique. For this assignment, you will be required to use research articles. Develop an annotated bibliography of each article that includes: • The APA reference for the study being reviewed. • A general summary of the article. • An analysis of the article: what was studied, how it was studied (methodology), what was discovered (results), and how the findings may inform the field of play therapy, including its theoretical systems. If the article does not have a method section, please explain how this could be studied as an EBP. • An evaluation of the major themes of the article. • An evaluation of the effectiveness of use in current play therapy practice. • Ways the study could be improved upon.
