Analysis and Reflection on America Is In The Heart
Order Description
Analyze and reflect on Carlos Bulosans autobiography America Is In The Heart (1943), fcentury and their encounters with American racism. Yet the narrative moves beyond simply a telling of race and race relations. The central figures are workers and men, and America Is In The Heart simultaneously foregrounds issues of class and issues of gender.
Given these three main themes (race, class, and gender), think about which of them best describes America Is In The Heart. Can the book best be described as a story of race relations? As a story of class relations? Or as a story of gender relations? Think also about which of these categories is the least fitting descriptorrace, class, or gender.
Then write a 750 word essay (approximately 3 pages) in which you rank these three themes (race, class, gender) from most fitting to least fitting. In other words, which theme (race, class, or gender) best describes Bulosans narrative, and why? Which theme is the second- best description, and why? And which theme is the third-best description of the book, and why? Your analysis should explain WHY you decided to rank them in the particular order that you chosethat is, why theme A is the most fitting, why theme B is less fitting than A, but more fitting than C, and why theme C is the least fitting, in your opinion.
Your discussion must include specific examples the book. (Any ideas that you take from our class discussion must be attributed to the class discussion.) Cite direct quotations and indirect information from the readings in the following format (Bulosan, 139). Your papers analysis of the text should accurately reflect its meaning in both letter and spirit.
