Architecture, Building and Planning
The topic is Robie House
Circulation, View, & Time (DUE 11/30 @9:00 am)
Sequence of Movement in Space:
• Identify at least one path-space relationships (pass-by, pass-through, terminate
in space) and make schematic drawings on plans to indicate.
• Describe how the designer/architect treated the sequence of movement in
spaces (movement through light/amount of time & space required/tempo &
rhythm of moving through space) and how the views change through the
sequence of the movement. Describe spatial experience created by the identified
type of sequence of movement in space.
Expression of Time in Space:
• Describe at least one way in which the passage of time is expressed in the case
study building (time of day and night/seasonal change/age in years/change in
cultural rituals or patterns/ other)
• Describe how the transformation of time is expressed in the selected building
(transformation from one reality to another / transformation through deliberate
manipulation / transformation through wear & loss/through elevation of status)
• Add appropriate visual notations to support your analysis.
• Be sure to refer to lecture notes

Check-list
Appearance of the page
• Drawings photocopied/scanned and mechanically reduced, drafted, drawn in
controlled free-hand, or produced through CAD
• Each page labeled clearly as to analysis type, for example
(Composition & Organization-Spatial Relationships: Space within a Space)
• Each page contains both a graphical notation, as well as a written notation
• Use of different color ink pens or color pencils & markers to indicate an
understanding of each element, but no ballpoint pens.
• All pages for all projects should be oriented in the same direction: horizontal or
