Assignment : Analysis of the Unemployment Rate

A. The purpose of this assignment to analyze trends and patterns in unemployment. The assignment is divided into the following sections: 1. Using CANSIM data (Table 282-0123, plot the unemployment rate for Canada, BC, and the Cariboo Region, for the period 2001 to 2014. Give at least one reason why the unemployment rate for the Cariboo region is often higher than the BC unemployment rate. OR, 2. Using CANSIM data (Table 282-0002), plot the unemployment rate for Canada, for the age group 15 years and over, men and women separately, for the period 1976-2014. Discuss gender differences in the unemployment rate. AND 3. Discuss the following: a) How the aggregate unemployment rate is often used. (i.e. what is it often used to represent?) b) At least two reasons why this single measure is increasingly inadequate for these purposes. c) At least two alternatives and their strengths and weaknesses. Presentation of the assignment 1. On left side, and top of the first page, provide a title, your name, student ID, course number and name, and the date. 2. The report should be a maximum of 2 pages including the charts, using normal margins (1 inch left and right sides), and Times New Roman, 12pt font. 3. Ensure you provide cite information fully and appropriately.
