1. Select five to 10 terms from your professional field of study/major. For this project, avoid defining more than one mechanism. Title your assignment by stipulating the field of the terms: for example, “Terms Used in Electronics,” “Terms Used in Criminal Justice,” “Terms Used in Medical Office Management,” and “Terms used in Welding.” 2. Develop a formal sentence definition for each of your terms. Each term must state the term, the class, and the distinguishing features/characteristics that differentiate your term from all others in its class. See page 209 for examples. Avoid the fallacies (refer to supplemental reading included in this packet). 3. Refer to Figure 11.1,” Questions to determine the best expansion approach” to determine which methods of expanding definition(s) you want to use to define your term. 4. Refer to page 217 and evaluate the strategies for definition in relation to each of your terms; use the Checklist for Definitions on page 218 also. 5. Define each of your five to 10 terms starting with a sentence definition. Expand each term using at least two types of expanding definition types. You may combine the various types of definitions (as shown in the examples in your text) and you may use as many types as you feel are necessary to define your term. You may use the 14 types multiple times. The only requirement is that you use each type of the 14 expansion methods at least once in this project. 6. Include a “Works Cited” page of all your sources in MLA format (shown in Appendix A of your textbook).
