College Athletes Should Be Paid
Students will complete a library research project that employs and demonstrates research skills. Students will show the ability to differentiate sources from a variety of platforms, note-taking,
drafting, documentation, use of the MLA style and proofreading. The paper should be at least five pages. The total paper is worth 250 points and must be completed in steps for credit.
1. Proposal (30 points)
Students will select a topic on which to take a stand. This topic may relate to class readings or contemporary issues. The proposal includes a thesis statement and five sources that will be
referenced in the paper. Assessment will include 10 points for the thesis statement, 10 points for appropriateness of the resources and 10 points for use of MLA format.

2. Outline (20 points)

3. Writing Conference
This step MUST be completed before moving forward to the next step
4. First Draft (100 points)
The five page research project must be typed and use 12 pt. Times New Roman font, be double spaced with 1” margins, and use MLA format. The draft should be posted to Blackboard by the due date.
