European Union Withdrawal Act 2017 An Act to withdraw the United Kingdom from the European Union and to terminate the effect of European Union law in the United Kingdom. Be it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:— Upon the people of the United Kingdom having made clear in a referendum that they wish the United Kingdom to leave the European UnionAnd upon the Prime Minister having in March 2017 activated Article 50 of the Treaty of LisbonAnd upon the negotiations between the United Kingdom and the European Union as to the terms of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from and subsequent relationship with the European Union having broken down irretrievablyIt is hereby enacted s.1 With effect from 1st March 2018 the United Kingdom shall no longer be a member of the European Union. s.2 With effect from 1st March 2018 no court or tribunal in the United Kingdom shall pay any regard to or give any effect to any law of the European Union. s.3 With effect from 28th February 2018 the European Communities Act 1972 shall be repealed. s.4 Court and tribunals in the United Kingdom shall apply the provisions of this Act notwithstanding any provision of United Kingdom or European Union law to the contrary. s.5 For the purposes of this Act, a law of the European Union shall be taken to include any law of the European Community.
