The length of the pages should be 8 to 12 including the title Page( 1 page) and the reference page (1 page) but not the appendix.
Instructor’s Feedback
There are some major points of confusion with you method, Wed, that need to be resolved prior to the final submission. Namely, your research question is unclear, as is your design and instrument. Please make an appointment to meet with me to make sure you’re on the right track to finish the assignment well.
Writing: Overall, your writing is good. There are a few small problems with usage and grammar that would be resolved if you had your paper proofread.
APA style (including title page and references): Your page numbers are not formatted correctly. The title page should only include the title, your name, and your institutional affiliate (i.e., Cleveland State University). Look at the assignment description to determine the section headings to use in your paper and the order they should be in—for instance, “Analysis Plan” should come before “Limitations.” Information of instrument validity and reliability should be included in the “Instruments” section, not given its own section. There are a number of issues with this. Also, when citing articles in your paper, do not include the first name or first initial of authors.
Introduction: Very good.
Literature review: You’ve done a very good job of incorporating feedback to improve this section. This is a strong literature review now. Good work.
Rational and research questions: Things begin to get confusing here. I understand the purpose of your study at this point to be an examination of how Arabic fluency affects learning English among Saudi students. But that’s not the question stated in this section. It seems like your research question should be, “What is the effect of Arabic fluency on English proficiency among Saudi students learning English as a second language.” Please clarify this prior to your final submission. This is a major issue to resolve.
Research design: You’ve stated that a qualitative, phenomenological method will be employed. That’s fine, but argue why that is the best choice given your research question. Make a case for why you choose this. Again, it’s confusing here because you’re talking about “the extent of embracing English,” when I thought you were interested in English proficiency.
Sample: The sample will include students of low proficiency in what language? Why would you limit he sample to only low-proficiency students? Explain. The “Sample” section and the “Sampling Design” section contradict one another. Which approach will you use? It sounds like the “Sample” section give an adequate strategy. I would delete the section labeled “Sampling Design.”
Instrument: It needs to be clear here how you will get data from the participants that will allow you to answer your research question. The second sentence here is unclear. Overall, I’m confused by this approach. Your topic is how Arabic proficiency help with English proficiency, so that’s what you should be measuring or asking participants about. If you’re using interviews as your data collection technique (it isn’t clear to me if you are), then you should include an appendix at the end of the paper that lists each of the specific questions that you would ask your participants—you can then refer the reader to that appendix here in this section. It’s unclear to me how the English test fits in here. Please clarify that. Also, this statement is unclear because it applies more strongly to quantitative data collection: “Use of interview is beneficial because it will lead to the acquisition of the first-hand information. It will also be a less costly to apply in this research. It will also take a short period to administer hence convenient to the participants and their schedule.” The sections on validity and reliability are unclear—I don’t know what you’re referring to here (the interview protocol, some other test)—I would delete these.
Analysis plan: This makes sense. You give a good description of how you would code the qualitative data.
Limitations: This is confusing and will have to be addressed again once you clarify some of the other aspects of your method.
