Ethics Paper

Ethics Paper Order Description Students will write a paper focused on relevant codes of ethics. Specific guidelines will be provided. (Course Objective 6) You should satisfactorily complete Activity #3 before working much on this assignment. Answer the following question in essay form: Identify four components of the codes of ethics that you consider to be most important in your current and/or future practice as an educator. For each, explain why you selected it (why it is important to you). The two codes of ethics you will be using are the Code of Ethics for Educators (from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission) and the Special Education Professional Ethical Principles and Practice Standards (from the Council for Exceptional Children); these are included in the Ethics Module that is, in turn, within the Weeks Two-Three Module. Notice that CEC refers to individuals with exceptionalities, since they include individuals with gifts and talents; your program covers students with disabilities, not the group of learners identified as gifted/talented. The Special Education Professional Ethical Principles is technically CECs code of ethics, but CEC also addresses standards for professional practice under ethics (in general), so you may use both of these sections from CEC as CECs code of ethics. As always, if you use an exact quote you need to use quotation marks. For this assignment, you do not need to use a formal citation and reference unless you are using information from an outside item one that is not part of this assignment, i.e., something other than the items posted for your use in this assignment. (It would make most sense for you just to get information from the items that are part of this assignment, not looking at any outside sources, but if you do use an outside item you need to cite it within your essay and include it in a list of references at the end of your paper following current APA style requirements.) Identify each component of the codes of ethics you select to include in your responses according to the code of ethics from which it comes, its designation, and its full name, for example: Georgia Code of Ethics for Educators Standard 1: Legal Compliance CEC Special Educators Professional Ethical Principles, Standard 6 using evidence, instructional data, research. And professional knowledge of inform practice. CEC Special Education Standards for Professional Practice, Professional Development 3.2 Maintain current knowledge of procedures, policies, and laws relevant to practice. Once you have used the full designation for a component, refer to it in shorter form, for example: Georgia Code Standard 1or GaPSC Code Standard 1 CEC Ethical Principle 6 CEC Professional Practice Standards, Professional Development 3.2 You should not provide APA-style citations in the text for the codes of ethics or include them in a reference list. As always, however, use quotation marks for any direct quotes from these items. Be sure to check out the grading rubric before you get started. The APA style manual will be used as the authoritative source related to writing mechanics; however, more primitive errors that are not included in the APA manual (e.g., random isolated letters in the middle of sentences, using title case for common nouns) also will count as errors. Be sure that you use I statements to explain why each standard is important to you (why you picked it).
