What roles do Indigenous women play within the family? Do these roles changes with further contact with Europeans? What strategies are used by these women to attempt to maintain their independence and power? 2. What role does the extended family play in each video? 3. How are children viewed by the Indigenous vs. the European worldview of their place in families? 4. Based on what you saw in the two videos does it appear that the families that resulted as a result of these so called "mixed blood" relationships were more Indigenous, European or mixed in their make up? Question 4 As most of you will know from your own experience and observations very few Canadian families can fit the SNAP model set out by Dorothy Smith. While viewing the two videos linked to below please consider the following: 1. In the families portrayed how do they measure up to the Standard North American Family discussed in lectures? 2. Question 6 The word Sharia means the path to the watering hole and is a code of living most Muslims adopt as part of their faith. Some countries formally institute it as law of the nation. However, the way in which Sharia law is applied varies from country to country. Some Muslims would like to have Sharia law exist in Canada while others are vehemently opposed to such an idea.
