Order Description Explore and assess human resource management in a particular national context, leading to the preparation of a 3000 word study that takes the form of an introduction to HRM in that country. - must be structured int he following format: Theoretical context (around 900 words) You must set out how your country fits in with theoretical frameworks which we have discussed in class: Varieties of Capitalism/business systems; welfare state; industrial relations, training and caring regimes. Labour market context (around 900 words) Current patterns and trends in the approach to HRM in the country of your choice at company or organisational level. Relevant survey data, case studies or recent discussion which highlights approaches to HRM in that country will be useful here. What seem to be the key HRM issues and problems confronting management in this country at the moment in relation to HRM? - Macro-economic/policy issue (around 900 words ) Choose one major issue which is facing the country’s employers, government and stakeholders. Examples of relevant issues: - Ageing workforces - Youth unemployment - Skills shortages - Economic transitions/retraining - Globalisation/outsourcing Using this example, discuss how key institutions that shape and influence HRM in that country. The focus here should be on the law relating to HRM, the vocational education and training system, employer associations and trade union organisation, corporate governance arrangements and the consequences for HRM. More than a simple description, the aim should be capture how these institutions have developed historically and the assumptions and values that inform them.
