The book that is reference is Leadership by Peter Northhouse (Theory and Practice 7th edition)
1. In Northouse, read (Chapter 3) about skills approach and reflect on your leadership skills and those skills you observe in others. Administer the Skills Inventory (SI). Report findings from
instrument.
2. Using the data from the administration of the instrument, identify the
technical, human, and conceptual skills you possess.
3. Overall, what is the strongest skill area as a leader? Identify how you plan to
grow conceptual skill area?
4. What skills do you identify as essential in leading change and innovation?

1. In Northouse, read Chapters 4, 5, & 6, about behavior and style approaches to
leadership.
2. As a scholar practitioner, what is the value of knowing about the “style
approach” to leadership? Administer the Leadership Behavior Questionnaire
(Leadership Behavior Questionnaire, pp. 87-89) and report findings from the
instrument.
3. The style approach involves “working with others,” especially as they see you as having one of four styles described in Chapter 5. Describe a situation when others in your organization may have
observed you as having a DIRECTING STYLE. Describe a situation when others in your organization may have observed you as having a COACHING STYLE. Describe a situation when others in your
organization may have observed you as having a SUPPORTING STYLE. Describe a situation when others in your organization may have observed you as having a DELEGATING STYLE. If these experiences have
not occurred, just state that. Which style is your default?
