NUR 300 Case Study Guidelines and Rubric

In this case study, you will have the opportunity to address a clinical situation that involves use of the QSEN safety competencies. Use subheadings to organize your paper around the questions that are provided below. It is most important that nurses be involved with patient and unit safety, and this brief paper approaches the issue from the perspective of an experienced nurse working with new staff. Prompt: Nurse Mary Jones is a seasoned ICU nurse and a member of the ICU quality committee. Several new nurses have joined the staff in the last six months, and Nurse Mary Jones would like to involve the new staff with the activities of the quality committee. At this time, all quality benchmarks for core measures, hospital-acquired infections (MRSA), and medication errors are exemplary. Nurse Jones recently was introduced to the QSEN Safety Competencies. These are listed in Appendix B in your Sherwood and Barnsteiner text. Nurse Jones would like to develop a plan to involve the new and seasoned staff nurses with implementation and ongoing review of QSEN safety competencies in the ICU. How would you advise Mary to develop a team plan for this venture? Specifically: 1. What are four safety elements to be initially included? Why? 2. What is the time frame? Explain your rationale. 3. Explain the process of evaluation once the plan is in place. 4. Does your proposal have sustainability, meaning should staffing change and will the plan to maintain and evaluate safety competencies on the unit be able to continue? Rubric Guidelines for Submission: The case study should follow these formatting guidelines: 2–4 pages in length, double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, oneinch margins, and citations in APA format. Instructor Feedback: This activity uses an integrated rubric in Blackboard. Students can view instructor feedback in the Grade Center. For more information, review these instructions.
