Public Demonstrations in Nashville during Civil Rights Movement
Public Demonstrations in Nashville during Civil Rights Movement
Order Description
I Research Paper
The research paper should be between 10-12 pages and must make use of at least two of the three books used in the course along with two additional books or journal articles. You cannot use Internet websites or other materials posted online except for books or journals. Wikipedia is not an acceptable website to reference for this paper and should not be used. This paper must critically examine a local or national aspect of the civil rights movement. You should also connect the activism of the activist to a larger aspect of the civil rights movement. For example, if a student did a biographical paper on John Lewis, then he or she could broaden the biographical paper to discuss Lewis’ role in the sit-ins and freedom rides, which helped to end discrimination and segregation in public accommodations and interstate transportation. Paper topics are not limited to topics discussed in class but should be within the scope of the course. Be creative in choosing your paper topics. Here are two other examples: 1. Students may wish to explore public school desegregation initiatives in a state, city or county (noting the impact on participants, families, and communities). 2. Students may choose to examine the activism of middle class women and discuss their contributions to a local and/or national civil rights organization (noting how their activism helped to shape the civil rights movement).
The books are The Nashville Way by Benjamin Houston and The Civil Rights Movement in Tennessee: A Narrative History by Bobby Lovett. Paper must be in Chicago Manual Style with footnotes.
This paper should focus on sit-ins to desegregate public facilities in Memphis.
