GOV 461 – Public Policy Analysis Dr. Ellis – Summer 2015 Homework 3: Analysis of Policy Alternatives and Recommendation At the end of the semester, each student will turn in a completed Policy Analysis. This homework assignment serves to ensure that students have thought about and begun planning for the completion of the Policy Analysis. Instructions: 1) In 7-10 pages, analyze at least, but not limited to, 3 policy alternatives and provide a detailed policy recommendation. a. The analyses of policy alternatives should include... i. An explanation of the pros and cons of the given alternative (Ex. How could the alternative help the problem? How could it hurt or what other problems could it cause?) ii. An explanation of stakeholders who support and oppose the given alternative and their reasoning iii. A brief feasibility assessment of the alternative that includes practical concerns such as affordability and political acceptability b. The recommendation for one of the policy options as a solution should include... i. The specific practical steps or measure that must be implemented for the solution to be successful ii. A closing paragraph that re-emphasizes the importance of action and why the recommended solution will succeed. 2) Works Cited a. You should be utilizing at least 15 sources b. Including at least 7 pieces of peer-reviewed academic research (books or articles) and/or applied research from interest groups and research organizations 3) Your papers must: a. Be proofread extensively for grammar, spelling, logic, and coherence. Overall quality is the most valuable component of this assignment. b. Be double-spaced using Times New Roman 12pt or Calibri 11pt font, with 1 inch margins, page numbers, and should not contain any extra spaces before or after paragraphs and headings c.
