Reflection & Response The Reflection & Response Paper will examine a specific interpersonal communication concept that helps you to strengthen your relationship(s) and shape your reality. The paper must be organized into four sections: 1. The first section of the paper will clearly and thoroughly define the interpersonal communication concept, citing at least three sources from outside your textbook. 2. The second section of the paper will describe the interpersonal encounter(s) to which you actively applied the concept. 3. The third section will discuss how your use of the concept impacted the encounter(s). 4. The concluding section will critique the effectiveness of your use of the concept to improve your communication competence, strengthen your relationship(s), and shape your reality. Requirements: • The Reflection & Response Paper must be 8-10 pages (2500-3000 words), double-spaced, and in APA format. The Reflection & Response Paper will examine Cooley's theory of the Looking-Glass Self (p. 39). 1. In the first section of the paper, define Cooley's theory of the Looking-Glass Self in the contexts of: o face-to-face communication, o mediated communication, o mass media and advertising. 2. When others show you who they think you are, they influence who you think you are. In the second section of the paper, describe how others influence the attitudes, beliefs, and values you have about yourself. 3. Others also show you who they think you ought to be. Sometimes your ought self is in contradiction to your ideal self. Other times, yourought self and ideal self align. In the third section of the paper, discuss these contradictions and alignments. 4. At the same time you are seeing yourself reflected back from others, you are also reflecting back to them who you think they are and who you think they ought to be. In the forth section of the paper, critique how you influence their self-concepts. Requirements: • The Reflection & Response Paper must be divided into 4 sections. Each section must be titled and presented in this order: Definition,Description, Discussion, and Critique. • The paper must be 8-10 pages (2500-3000 words), double-spaced, and in APA format. • Must contain a Works Cited page of at least 3 sources, not including your textbook.
