requirement for educational purposes
response post
My experience with reading has always been a requirement for educational purposes since I was a young child. When I was in elementary school my class was required to read hundreds of pages in a quarter because I was in a college preparatory class. We would have to read so many books a quarter to obtain a passing grade. Reading was not always fun for me it was something that I had to do. According to our text, ″many other read literary works to satisfy academic requirements″ (DiYanni,pg .1) .I felt like I always had to read for school and not for pleasure. For most of my teenage years I had to read more advanced books probably not what most people my age were reading at their schools. I can remember reading teen books by the author Judy Bloom for enjoyment when I was not studying for class. The challenges that I began to face with reading came along when I got in to high school and read William Shakespeare plays and poems. My interpretation of the writings were different from the teachers and they would make remarks on my papers that I did not agree with. It always seemed to me that there could have been more than one interpretation of those plays. That is what seems to be the challenge for me when reading. If someone has a different understanding of a writing it does not necessarily mean that they are wrong. I admit that I do not like reading anymore. It is not pleasurable for me because I have always had to meet deadlines and due dates which prevented me from reading what I enjoy. DiYanni, R.(2008).
