Soft Skills Quote Analysis Report:

Students will be required to write two short papers that analyze and apply the second half of the Hard Truth about Soft Skills book to public organization theories. In part 1 of the report: • Students must select 8 pertinent quotes (two quotes per chapter) from the second half of the book (for chapter 5 through chapter 8). In Part 2 of the report: • Students have to discuss these quotes in relation to the assigned reading cases and the course book and practical organizational settings. • Look out for quotes that are either essential or central points to the argument, or something you find interesting, something that makes you think or question. These can also include something you read but you didn’t understand, or that connects to a current event or a trend. • Your discussion should be an essay of 5-6 paragraphs to consider how the authors’ ideas and approach to teams contributes to understanding how to manage public organizations. Consider how this book applies to practical issues of managing public or non-profit organizations. Discuss specific soft skills as ways to address the management problems in at least 3 cases from the assigned readings. • As you read, be on the lookout for elements such as the thesis statement, themes, assertions about major or minor points, theory, practice, point of view, advice, mood, tone, objectivity, and balance. - Use a Reference List.
