Summarize what you learned from the presenter and create a personal report in short report format (Introduction, Findings, Discussion, Summary, References) in APA Style...don't forget the title page. Make sure to include in the summary another paragraph listing each group member's First and Last Name, Rate each student's contributions on a scale of 1 (did very little) to 10 (did more than their share) what each group member contributed to this assignment then list their contributions. Please share any other comments that might help me assign the appropriate points for each group member. Especially list all that you did, include people you contacted but could not come, etc.

Josh Lynn is an electrical engineer at Code Corp. One of the things that he used to do was work as a tech support as a first responder. he used onapp which uses one server so that they can all connect with each other. Onapp works as a cloud manager for all of the servers that are ran by the IT group. You can create the cloud with different aspects such as size, disk space, and so on, for the machine that people would use. Another way to use this is to test different software so that it doesn't use their own software. Other companies would buy some of that software, almost like real estate. This is usually done by hosting companies. When somebody would call in a complaint they would get into the complaints control panel through SSH so that they can fix the problem. LVN is a Linux is basically a camera so that they can have backup server in case something happens. One of the good things about LVN is that it has a lot of recovery options. Some of his work consists of BASH script, which is a line of code that can do multiple commands. They also use programs that allow all of the different people so that they can see the changes to the program as they are made. He has used many of the BASH scripts to automate many of their tasks. During the time that he has been working he has made use of many of his IT skills by creating programs to help make the company more efficient. This has helped him win favor with his employers as well as with his colleagues. He works on circuit structure at code corp in draper, UT.
• Electrical engineer at Code Corp
◦ Used to work a lot in IT, wanted to show how his experience in IT has helped in his current field
• Graduated USU in 2017, but got Associates at UVU
◦ Not a lot of engineering courses at UVU at the time, which is why he switched
• Worked for a company called OnApp, did virtualization
◦ Hosting company would license software through OnApp
◦ He was the 1st responder for tech support (level 1)
◦ Log in to control panel> control panel will tell them what to do
◦ Hosting company would this for a customer facing site
◦ Logged into a cloud, he can use the cloud to build a virtual machine to test software without running it on an actual server.
▪ Hosting companies might have a few big computers and all of their clients who need a production server would pay the hosting company for their server.
▪ Host server has more resources available
▪ Hosting companies are the major clients, small business wants a website, can go to hosting company>outsourcing their server
• SSH> secure shell, securely accessing a server. Widely used in a linux systems
• Logical volume management (LVM)> VM-issues with backups.
◦ Can create a snapshot> it’s says here’s the original drive, I’m going to keep track of the differences of the two.
◦ Lot of built in restoration capabilities
◦ Got the order of commands wrong on the server
▪ Tried to remove one logical volume
▪ Removed all the logical volumes
• OnApp is how he got started in IT
◦ Learned how to do bash scripting
▪ Making a little program without compiling code
◦ Able to use this in his current job, uses LTN
▪ When working on code, word doc. Can check it into an SVN server and everyone will have access to it.
▪ See updates, changes etc.
• Tasked with setting up LTN to use SVN
◦ Just built a VM on his laptop
◦ Able to do all the testing to make sure that it was compatible
◦ Went to IT people who created a VM for him to continue testing.
◦ Uses components to pull from a library to build LTN
• Code corp makes barcode scanners
◦ Pcp design, circuit design
▪ Creates the circuits that get created and put into the barcode scanners
▪ Located in Draper
▪ Primary market is healthcare. Make barcode readers/scanners with plastic that is immune to hospital cleaners
▪ Market to Intermountain, but not specific to just healthcare field.
◦ Roughly 3 IT people at Code Corp, but always looking for more.
▪ Software used: epicore, sharepoint DB, Jurra
• Linux was a hobby to learn about and play, pointed him toward OnApp to get through school.
◦ Chose to stick with studied field, instead of with IT
◦ Not sure what pay difference would have been
• Advice: figure out what you want to do sooner rather than later, career path etc.
• Josh Lynn, Electrical Engineer at Code Corp.
• Prior work in IT was useful in current field
◦ Studied electrical engineer in school
◦ Lynix software was a hobby
◦ IT job during school,
◦ Graduated from USU in 2017
◦ Associates earned at UVU (helped
• Worked for OnApp, did Virtual Machines
◦ Logged into the cloud to create a virtual machine
◦ Virtual machines use to test
◦ Hypervisor-production company pays for piece of server
◦ Virtual server runs on a host server
◦ Hosting companies (out sources server to various smaller companies)
Client Issues: SSH (secure shell, access to servers) Lynix software
• Access the control panel server, access the hypervisors
• Able to diagnosis issues
• Restart server
• Change database
• Has used Lynix software in the past and in his current position
• War Story: Sin tax (command mix-up) the order was incorrect
◦ Not reprehended
◦ He handled the situation well, reached out for help to resolve the situation
• You can check code into a SVN server
◦ users can view changes
• IT staff are busy, Josh was able to build the VM, then IT was able to add access to the VM
• Library of components to build a circuit board, uses batch-scripts
• Code Corp makes barcode readers
◦ Circuit design, layouts of circuit boards
◦ Technical tools are needed
◦ Located in Draper
◦ Primary market is healthcare, other fields are served
◦ Special plastics that are immune to sanitizing chemicals
◦ Provo Hospital uses the scanners
• IT employees: 3, looking for more
• Sharepoint, Jurra, Epicore all set-up by IT
• Recommendations: Figure out your career goals soon, then focus education path towards path

Individual citing...make sure to get all the information you need for this citing in APA style
All students:
1. Open up Canvas
2. Create a posting under the Guest Speaker Discussion Tab
3. Take notes, write down your reactions to what is being said
4. Once presentation is over, feel free to ask any questions (Is your company hiring, beginning salaries, does your company facilitate job shadowing, is there part time employment at your company, what skills are required to start at the bottom in your company, etc.)
5. Post your comments
Note: Guest speakers often come with part-time and full-time job opportunities. If you are interested in working for the company that the guest speaker is from, I strongly suggest that you take the time to get his/her contact information and ask at least one question. Guest Speakers provide many opportunities for employment now or in the future. Networking is very important.
Guest Speaker
Speakers must be currently working in an IS, IT, closely related field.
Invite, schedule, and make any other arrangements for a guest speaker to come and speak for 30 minutes during class time.
Example: Make parking arrangements, check to see what they need for their presentation, be prepared to introduce your guest speaker to the class, assign a group member as the moderator (job is to make sure they know when their time is up). When your guest speaker comes, all group members should be present to get credit for the assignment. If you can not be there, I need to know why and have written documentation to support your good reason. Medical, death in the family, or other extenuating circumstances or examples for not being there!
Presentation topics to discuss by speaker (make sure you let the guest speaker know):
A. Share current employment responsibilities, educational background, certifications, and any other job experiences.
B. Tell a few war stories (tough situations)
C. Lessons learned in career path to date
D. Any recommendations you would offer to the students that would help them to be successful in their careers.
E. Time for Questions at the end of the presentation
