Article Summary Guidelines
Find an article relating to each of the topics listed below. Write a one page typed summary of each of the articles. Summaries should include three well developed paragraphs.
Sections to Include - The first paragraph should consist of a summary of the article written in your own words. The second paragraph should explain how the article relates to the assigned topic. In this paragraph it is important that you incorporate material from lectures and the textbook as it relates to the assigned topic. The third paragraph should include your reaction to the article.
Citation Requirements – At the bottom of the page include a complete citation of the article and any textbook references. Use the APA citation format. If you are not familiar with this format, see the Citation Guide on the library web page.
Formatting Requirements - Use 1.5 line spacing and 12 point Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri font. Also, use 1 inch margins. Staple all summaries together along with a cover page. The cover page should include the title of the assignment (Graduate Student Article Summaries), your name, the date, and the course number and section (MKT 482).
Grading Criteria - Papers will be graded on the basis of content and grammar. Points will be deducted for poor writing. If English is not your first language, there is a Writing Center tutoring service in Leland Speed Library 1st floor to help with your papers.
As a reminder, cutting and pasting from other sources is NOT acceptable. Any copying of another’s work without appropriate citation, quotation, and referencing will be considered plagiarism and result in a “0” on the assignment.
Submission Procedure – Summaries should be submitted at the end of the semester on December 8th.
Recommended Sources - Avoid making extensive use of Internet resources such as Wikipedia. Use published journal and magazine articles wherever possible. Good sources for articles are listed in the handout Retail Trade Publications and Websites found posted on Moodle. You can access these publications through the MC library’s database – Business Source Complete.
