In a 2-3 page essay, following MLA formatting, answer the following question:
How does bodily humor dictate a character’s actions through the entirety of the novel (“Prison
Door – “Conclusion”)? You may choose more than one humor for the purpose of your
argument. Be sure to use citations from both the novel and the JSTOR article as supporting
evidence for your argument.
1) Identify a character and his/her most prominent characteristics.
2) Drawing from the context of the novel, identify scenes that specifically highlight the
characteristics you’ve outlined in step one.
3) Referencing all of your work for this novel, especially the “Character Analysis”
handout and JSTOR article, decide which humor(s) best categorize(s) your chosen
character.
4) Create a valid argument that explains how the humor determines the character’s
actions throughout the entire novel.
