Tokyo Olympic Stadium
Topic Description;
The city of Tokyo is going to hold the summer Olympic games in 2020, and it has been said that the stadium will be bigger than any of its recent predessors. The initial budget was $3 billion,but it has been scaled back to $1.37 billion. The stadium was designed by British architect Zaha Hadid. The biggest reason it would cost insanely huge amount of money is the arching roof, which will rise 70m(230ft) into the air. The original design actually would have been three times bigger than London’s Olympic stadium, and the revised design is now only twice as big.
People in Tokyo wonder why the stadium has to cost over a billion dollar and will be paid by tax. According to New York timnes, for a nearly a year, the criticism of the Hadid design has been full-throated. About 500 people took to the streetlast summer to protest it as oversized and overpriced.
Discuss whether the stadium has to cost over a billion dollar. Is the roof really needed? Is there any way to decrease the cost? etc.
