Order Description This paper will assess your ability to apply abstract communication concepts to a media item. Your goal is to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the communication concept of emotional labor and to analyze how they apply to the media item you present in your paper. What constitutes a media item? Here is a short list. Make sure your media item is manageable, meaning you will not have time to analyze more than 2 to 4 minutes of media if you are showing a TV show or part of a movie. Don't try to analyze a whole piece, only use a clip! Television Shows Movies Song Lyrics Television Advertisements Newspaper Articles Radio Shows Comic Strips Artwork/Photographs Assignment Description and Explanation: This will be a 5 to 7 page paper that details the communication concept that you have identified and how that concept connects to the media item. Here are some guidelines to help guide this process: State the concept you are focusing on in the introduction. Once you have completed the introduction, you will want to detail the communication concept in more depth. You should assume that your reader has not taken a communication course and has not read the textbook. You should bring in other sources or research to help explain the concept. Describe the media item that exemplifies the communication concept. Along with the description, you will provide a link to the media item in your bibliography and should provide a link where I can view or see the item. Give context and details so your reader fully understands how the communication concept links to the media item. Then connect the concept and the media item. Again, make sure your reader fully understands how media item and the concept are connected. Format Guidelines: Each paper should be 5 to 7 pages in length. Each paper should use 12pt font size and use times new roman font. Each paper should be double-spaced. Each paper should include an introduction, body, and conclusion. Each paper should include a reference page and you must cite at least 4 academic sources. Each paper will use APA guidelines for reference page and in-text citations. Note: a cover page is not needed and abstract are not required. Here is a general breakdown for the paper. Note that this is an outline and your paper will be in essay format. I. Introduction: A. Gain the reader’s attention. B. State the concept you plan on describing. C. Establish a clear direction and thesis for the rest of the paper. II. Body: A. Explanation of concept. Remember should use your textbook and other resources to help describe the concept. B. Detail the media clip – what happens C. Link or connect the concept and the experience. III. Conclusion: A.
