MAKE CONNECTIONS – 5. This is music that Bach composed for the Church in his day. Compare and contrast this music to sacred music from the Middle Ages and Renaissance, or with modern worship music.

King George commissioned Handel to write the music for a boating party on the Thames. An ensemble of 50 musicians played on a barge on the river, while the king and his favorites listened from the royal barge. Hundreds of people in other boats listened alongside.
1. Describe the performance.

3. What emotions are conveyed in the piece? How does it make you feel? If you would have been the king (or queen), how would you have evaluated Handel’s work?

26-35 = Good: All songs completed. The form is entirely completed with full sentences displaying thoughtful responses utilizing appropriate musical vocabulary. The document contains minimal writing errors and demonstrates quality listening.
21-25 = Fair: All songs completed. The form is not entirely completed with a mixture of full and partial sentences displaying reasonably thoughtful responses utilizing some musical vocabulary. The document contains minimal writing errors and demonstrates careful listening.
1-20 = Poor: At least one song completed. The form is not entirely completed with a mixture of fragments or partial sentences displaying reasonably thoughtful responses utilizing less than adequate musical vocabulary. The document contains writing errors or demonstrates less than careful listening.
0 = No response.
(As with other assignments, if submitted past the Sunday past the due date the highest score will be out of 90% “36pts.” – In this case, the formula applied will be basically “score” minus “four”.)
