Order Description ENVI 130 Group Project Due Nov. 20, 2015 Travel Itinerary For this project, you will work in groups of three to four people to create a travel itinerary for a city or country of your choice, and which must be approved by me. There are three parts to be completed: 1) The budget: Create an itemized budget in Excel based on $1000 plus airfare per person. Use travel resources (such as Kayak, TripAdvisor, or travel guides such as Lonely Planet) to estimate the following: a. transportation (airfare) b. lodging for how long you will spend there (consider hostels, couchsurfing, Airbnb, as well as hotels). c. You will also need to figure out what kinds of local transportation you will use and how much it will cost (trains, subway, buses, rickshaws). d. Include a daily budget for food and drink (at least three meals a day), e. Include entrances to sightseeing venues, or other activities you would want to take part in (for example, a day trip to a Hindu temple, or scuba diving in Australia). f. Include spending money for souvenirs. g. Check to see if there is a visa requirement and how much it costs to enter/leave the country. h. Include the total cost of the entire trip. 2) The itinerary: Plan day by day where you will be and what you will do. a. For example: i. Day 1: travel by plane from Indianapolis to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (travel time 29 hours, arriving the next day). Take a bus to the Wutma Hotel. ii. Day 2: visit the St. George Cathedral and Museum. b. Include an introductory paragraph in which you give an overview of the country or city, including what language is spoken and what currency is used. Is this a popular tourist area or off the beaten track? Are there security or health concerns? Check the CDC website for recommended vaccinations. 3) Google Earth tour: Create a tour using Google earth of some of the places in your itinerary. The tour should include a minimum of five stops. You can add commentary or music to your tour. Name the kmz file with the last name of one of your group members and the country or city you are touring. During Study Week, each group will show their tour to the class and talk briefly about their destination and what they would do there. Hand in a paper copy of your budget and itinerary (one copy per group) in class on Nov. 20. Email me ([email protected]) your Google Earth tour by Nov. 20. Tips: • Every group must choose a different destination. Think about unusual places that may not get many American tourists, such as Sri Lanka, Albania, Mali, or Paraguay. • There are many resources on the web for inspiration and information, including atlasobscura.com, nomadicmatt.com, wherethehellismatt.com, and lonelyplanet.com. • Test out your Google Earth tour by emailing it to yourself. • All group members will receive the same grade unless a particular member did not participate at all (for example, did not attend any meetings, respond to any email or contact, or contribute any material). • Sign up with your group on Blackboard groups to facilitate your project and communication among group members.
