- Variables and Control Practice Earth Science

M1A6 - Variables and Control Practice Earth Science A - FX - Sec 1 - Flex Fall 2016 Instructions You already have some good scientific questions and at least one proposed hypothesis for each. Now it is time to identify the variables and the controls for 3 of these questions/hypotheses. Choose three questions. 1) First identify what the independent variable is for each question. What one thing are you changing in anticipation of seeing a result? 2) Then, identify the dependent variable. Generally this is what you are measuring to see how much of a result your independent variable created. 3) Finally, you need to design a control. This may be the hardest part to create. It is another sample in your experiment where you do not use the independent variable, but you do everything else to this sample. You only need to choose 3 of your questions for this assignment. Be sure you write the original question so it is clear which ones you are identifying the variables and controls for. Open a Word document and write your original questions, and your variables and controls for each question. Save the document to your computer. Each question’s variables are worth three points. One point each for the independent variable, dependent variable, and the control, for a total of 9 points. How to submit this assignment! Make sure you have reviewed all the material from the lesson and contacted your teacher about any questions that you have before starting the assignment. Follow the directions outlined in the assignment instructions. Click 'Open' below and attach your assignment. Type any comments you wish to send to your teacher. Click Submit. QUESTIONS AND HYPOTHESIS: “Is it going to be cold enough to snow on Mauna Kea this winter?” If it’s too warm due to climate change, then it will not snow this winter on Mauna Kea. “How do chameleons change their color?” If a chameleon feels afraid of a predator, then it will change it’s color. “How does a seal keep itself warm?” If a seal keeps enough fat on their body, then they can keep their bodies warm like a wetsuit.
