AT A MINIMUM, feedback should share: One thing you enjoyed, one thing you think could have been improved, and how effective you feel this approach would be for the intended audience (one paragraph or more).
1) feedback (one paragraph or more).
In our presentation, we explore the effect that stereotype threat can have on young women and how it can dissuade them from pursuing future careers in STEM fields.
The pdf for the flyer can be found below.
Due to the size of the video, we decided to upload it to YouTube. Here is the link to the video:

2) feedback (one paragraph or more).
For our presentation, we decided to create a TED talk/Lecture video on stereotype threat as well as a brochure. Our target audience are college students at university.

Stereotype Threat of Women in
STEM Fields
What is Stereotype Threat?
Stereotype Threat is a large issue that affects mostly everyone in today’s society. It is a self-confirming
belief that one may be evaluated based on a negative stereotype. Stereotypes can be attributed to a variety
of characteristics that the person might have but which they possess no control over. Women in Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Math fields are commonly exposed to stereotype threat, as they are
involved in a field populated by predominantly men.
Examples of Stereotype Threat
Someone believing that their race may cause
them to be perceived as inferior on a certain
subject
Someone believing that their race may cause
others to perceive them as more violent
A woman worrying of underperforming at a
specific subject due to her gender
All of these perceived prejudices can cause the
person to attempt to overcompensate to disprove
the stereotype of which they are a victim. Being conscious of these threats detracts from the victim's
performance, causing them to inadvertently conform to the threat.

Eliminating Stereotype Threat
One way that stereotype threat
can be eliminated in STEM
fields is to have an increased
presence of women in STEM
majors. Often, stereotype threat
is caused by people being in the
minority of a group. For
example, having a male
dominated class may cause
females to feel that they are
incapable of performing at the
men’s level due to their
underrepresentation. Increasing the amount of women in STEM fields plays to the concept that there is
strength in numbers.
Another way that stereotype threat can be eliminated is to increase the amount of women on STEM
faculty. Having a female in a leadership position can encourage other women to enter the field, while also
giving the students someone they can identify with to express their thoughts and concerns about their
studies.
Common Resources for Women at NC State
North Carolina State University is a heavy engineering school. As such, it is very easy for women to be
stereotyped because of anything that they might choose to do while they are here. If you are a woman who
feels as though they are being stereotyped, or you would just like some more information or a network to
reach out to, here are some resources to help you out:
• NC State Women's Center
• W.I.N.G.S. – NC State’s Staff Women’s Network
• Association of Women Faculty
• Council on the Status of Women
• North Carolina State University Woman's Club
